California Gold

Over quarantine, I finished the song California Gold and needed a cover for the ‘single’, so I went out with the lovely and amazing Marlena Rijn and we hiked a little and got these simple shots.

I think they turned out super lovely and seem like they are from another era.

Our inspo was really basic vintage lifestyle photos of cowgirls. When working with classic material steeped in history, I always like to flip it a little with luxurious details or something classic, but out of place or character. Here I tried a vintage faux fur jacket to make our cowgirl just a little more luxe. And since the hat automatically signifies cowgirl, we paired the styling with Chuck Taylor’s instead of the obvious cowboy boot. It’s these little choices that make style our own!

How do you take iconography and make it your own? Send me your tips and tricks!
